Celebrating 10 Years

“As Orion PSL celebrates its 10th anniversary in the logistics industry, I would like to take this opportunity as Managing Director to give you a personal account of my background and future goals in making Orion PSL become one of the most innovative and well-respected companies in the industry”.

I began my journey into this business armed solely with a briefcase, notepad and an idea.  With training experience in the logistics industry since the age of twenty, I set out to make my idea a reality.  After years of working for other people, I was confident that I could put all the experience that I had acquired into practice and create something positive and beneficial to the various logistic companies and their employees. Little did I know how my original idea would evolve, well beyond my initial expectations, and become an integral training part of the logistics industry.

I started looking around for a small office and found the perfect location in Evans Business Centre in Hillington. My first foray into this new career was to receive a commission from Awards UK to produce a report on the statistical training within the logistics industry. This gave me the opportunity to further my business based on the results of this report. We quickly gained some government contracts in Scotland and the new business started to take shape. This meant taking on new staff and ten years on, my first employee, Susan McBride, still remains a valued member of our staff and now works as my P.A.

The first government contract was with Scottish Enterprise that entailed delivering driver training to the unemployed. This resulted in us acquiring trucks and more staff, including driving instructors for this purpose. Over the following years, the business grew to the extent that we were obliged to look for new premises and consequently moved to Merlin House where we have grown steadily in the last eight years.

We now have a turnover in excess of £1.75 million and with the introduction of the European Mandatory Training Directive there are obvious opportunities to expand into the European market. We have since branched out with a new office across the border in Harrowgate.

Orion has taken advantage of new and innovative technology in order to assist us with this expansion and our new website illustrates some of this innovation such as; our newest acquisitions, the Mobile Driver Training Unit and the Driving Simulator.

Orion PSL has grown from a simple idea into a vibrant and successful business with a commitment to providing the best service and assistance to the logistic industry and possibly other areas where our expertise is required. A celebration of 10 years of growth with a view to bigger and better times in the future for both our staff and clients!
